Your district issued computer needs to be connected to our network for your initial login.
For new hires: You will also be creating your permanent password during setup.
Make sure you follow these steps when picking up your laptop before going home!
Please note that the actual laptop and dongle shown in this video may not match what you are provided, as the items are subject to change.
1) Turn on the laptop.
2) On the login screen, make sure the computer is connected to the network. In the lower right corner you will see the network status icon. If you see one of the icons below, you can skip to step 4.
2a) If you see a different icon or a variation of one of the icons below, wait for one minute. (Sometimes it takes a little time for the WiFi to turn on if the computer was off or in storage for an extended period of time). If you've waited one minute and nothing has changed, go to step 3.
3) We now need to get the computer connected to the district network. You can do this by plugging an ethernet cable into your computer or by clicking the network status icon and connecting to the district WiFi.
NOTE: If you are a new employee, the person you are picking up your computer from can provide you with the name and password for the WiFi network you need to connect to. Otherwise, we recommend connecting with an ethernet cable to continue, as you will need to have your MHUSD account password updated before you can connect.
When connecting to the WiFi, make sure to select the MHUSD network. You will be prompted to enter a username and password.
- Your username will be in the form of firstName.lastName ( ex: John.Smith )
- Your password will be the same as your Gmail, Aeries, and Windows login.If you are having trouble finding an ethernet plug in your office/classroom, you can borrow the one connected to your phone. Just remember to plug it back into your phone when you're done!
4) You are now ready to log into your computer. At the bottom left of the screen, you will need to click on "Other User". You should now see a text field for username and password. If you are not a new employee, you can use your aeries credentials here to log in.
5) Your username is your first name, a period, and then your last name. If your name is John Smith, your username would be john.smith. Then enter your password. If you have trouble logging in, check the network connection and ensure it is connected. For new hires only: Your temporary password should have been emailed to the personal email address you provided to HR upon hire. If you are unable to find this email, you (or the person assisting you) can contact the helpdesk by dialing 12345 from any district phone. Note: If you have reset your password already using the Password Reset Utility, you will skip step 6.
6) For new hires only: Once you enter your temporary password, you will be asked to create your permanent password. This password will apply to your computer, email, WiFi, and Aeries accounts.
7) Once logged in, you will want to open up Google Chrome. This will usually be on the left hand side of the desktop.
IMPORTANT: If you had used chrome on a previous laptop with your district gmail, PLEASE make sure that you have Sync turned on! Click on your profile icon at the top right, and somewhere below it in the popup should be the text "Sync is on". If you see "Turn on sync", make sure to click on this and confirm. Turning on sync will transfer over all of your bookmarks, tab history, passwords, etc. If you don't mind starting fresh, you can skip this.
8) You will be prompted to sign in. Enter your email in the form of lastNameFirstInitial@mhusd.org (ex: smithj@mhusd.org ). After, enter your password that you used to sign in to Windows. You should be good to go after this!
