Common Chromebook Questions And Information

General Issues

There are many issues that can be solved by powerwashing a chromebook and making sure it is up to date. We'd greatly appreciate if you tried these steps before contacting the helpdesk

Q: What Are My Student's Log In Credentials?

A: Your student's username is their student ID followed by "@students.mhusd.org". If their ID number is 12345, their username and email would be 12345@students.mhusd.org.

You can contact your site secretary or the helpdesk for the current default student password.

Q: How Do I Get An Extension/App Installed For My Students?

A: The IT department will need to review the Extension/App in question first. Please put in a ticket by going to the helpdesk website or emailing us a link to the extension you'd like to to use. Please note that we can only apply changes by grade, not by individual classrooms or students so we may ask you to get approval from other teachers/staff before moving forward with your request.

Q: Can I Customize Chromebooks For My Students?

A: To an extent, yes! We are able to configure chromebooks to have a set of bookmarks, have a specific website (or sites) open on login, automatically install certain extensions/apps, and even the background wallpaper. Note that we can only make these changes to an entire grade level, not specific students or classes. If you'd like these things to be configured just let the helpdesk know! Please note that beacuse we only make changes by grade, we may ask you to get approval from other teachers/staff before moving forward with your request.

Q: I have a student with specific needs. Are there any accessibility options?

A: Yes! Chromebooks have Speech-to-text and Text-to-speech built in (among other tools). While we can't enable them for you on a per student basis, these instructions will walk you/the student through the process on enabling these settings on their own.
